  ALL religion is superstition, just packaged to sell in the era in which it predominates. So happens that Christianity/Islam/Judaism are in current favor on the planet. None of them IS truth, nor do any of the fears they sell bring hope/salvation to anyone.

  You could repackage JWism, Christianity or any other, spice it a bit differently, and it would fit neatly into the minds of the Aztecs, the Mayans, the Greeks, or the Romans. Or perhaps the inverse of said statement would work [which is pretty well what has happened].

  In 10,000 years, your descendents will be pondering 'What is Truth'? Until mankind learns to accept our existence for what it is, instead of trying escape death by means of nirvana, transmigration of the soul, heaven or reincarnation, billions will trouble themselves over the question, then die right along with those who accept "That it is, what it is."

  Peace is what we should seek - not life after life is gone. You didn't exist for billions of years. Soon, you will not exist again, and billions of years will pass again. Enjoy life. There is no evidence [only empty belief, completely unprovable] of anything else. If you pass on, and find something else, well - bonus time. But, unless you know there is a bonus - and despite the claims - no one does - live, laugh, love.

  Don't worry. Be happy.

  to today is my oldest son's 18th birthday.

  part if me is slightly incredulous cuz it really doesn't seem like 18+ years, they've flown by.

  Congrats. My nest never got empty - my only child turned into a flaming idiot who dumped her beautiful children on my doorstep whilst she learned new and improved ways to evade the law - eventually ending in prison.

  So, I have a 12 year old, and a seven year old. I wouldn't trade them for all the gold in the world - but at times, I wish I could have that empty nest feeling I never had.

  2011 11824 Up 5.5%

  With all the changes in the 'generation', 'sealing', doctines, etc. - there have been unexpected [I imagine] jumps in this number. There have also been major efforts to stem this by discouragement in the Watchtower press. So it is up and down [the %], still up in total every year in the past few years.

  So, guesses?

  Here's mine - 12714 for 2012

  I know it's early, and the numbers won't be published for a long while. But we can pull up the thread and look later if you were right.

  this is an excellent read - free pdf download.

  basically points out a lot of inconsistencies in the bible.

  a lot of stuff i guess i knew already , but had just blanked it out.

  Thanx for posting.

  I am at a point where I need no prompting to believe the bible is total bunk - both as a result of doing investigation into it while I still believed it and later - and because the entire idea of grown adults swallowing so much horseshit without question just makes me ill to think of it.

  Still, if time permits I want to look it over.

  Tons - but I don't dwell on them much these days.

  • Turned down business opportunities and promotions [several] in order to pioneer, be spiritual, etc.
  • Did not learn critical thinking and skepticism until I was 50 - missed lots of opportunities to understand our species and our REAL history until later in life
  • Made tons of 'friends' who were assholes in the end
  • Was convinced that Biblical Christianity was the 'truth' [and the JW version particularly]. If not for religion being shoved down my throat, blocking all other visibility - I would have long ago known it was all delusion and who knows what direction I would have gone

  But I am a happy, satisfied, atheist now. So all is well that ends well I suppose.

  Funny, a few days ago I came across a comment of yours from years back, in which you denounced this sort of black and white thinking. I was so surprised when I read it that it had come from you. You are so far from that with a comment like this.

  There was nothing 'black and white' in that comment. I was just describing the 'Delusional' - here is the definition:
